AOL sells Winamp to Radionomy – what does it mean for your internet radio station?
After AOL announced that Winamp for Windows would be discontinued, Radionomy acquired Winamp along with SHOUTcast from AOL. What does it mean for online radio broadcasters? Well, for one, it might solve the thorny issue of MP3 encoding licenses being off the market since the Winamp store was taken down a few weeks ago. Radionomy might also try to leverage this move to promote its audio advertising division Targetspot.
In the day-to-day operation of a SHOUTcast radio station, this move is likely to provide long-term stability, but there might be a few tremors during the change of ownership and the ensuing SHOUtcast servers swap between the 2 companies.
We will keep you posted.
